Information about restrictions on personal import of food to Finland – we prevent animal diseases together

Import of meat, meat products, milk and dairy products from Russia and other non-EU countries to Finland by private persons is prohibited!

Finland wants to prevent the spread of serious, highly contagious animal diseases such as foot and mouth disease, classical swine fever and African swine fever into the country. These diseases are carried by humans as well as animals across national borders. The disease poses a major economic threat to Finland’s pig farming and meat industry.

Cases of African swine fever (ASF) have been reported in several neighboring countries of Finland and many other European countries. The disease occurs in domestic pigs and/or wild boar in countries including Russia, Ukraine, Belarus and in the EU in countries such as Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland and Czech Republic. African swine fever has never been detected in Finland. Transmission channels include meat and dairy products imported as gifts or for personal use.

As a reminder do not bring meat, meat products or foodstuffs that contain or are filled with meat or meat products with you to Finland.

Thank you for helping us to prevent the spread of animal diseases!
