Foreign Minister Tuomioja to attend the EU Foreign Ministers Meeting in Luxembourg

The EU Foreign Affairs Council will convene in Luxembourg on 20 October. Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja will represent Finland at the meeting. The topics for discussion by the Foreign Affairs Council are Iraq, Syria and ISIL, the Ebola epidemic, the situation in Ukraine, the Middle East peace process and Libya.

The Foreign Ministers will discuss the EU’s participation in the international community’s efforts against ISIL, and along with this the humanitarian situation in Syria and Iraq. The main focus of the Ebola discussion is the coordinated efforts of the EU and the Member States to curb the epidemic. With regard to Ukraine, the launching of the EU’s civilian crisis management operation, among other issues, will be discussed. The discussion of the Middle East peace process will centre especially on the situation in Gaza and the results of the conference held in Cairo on 12 October.
