Minister for Foreign Affairs Haavisto visits Riga

Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto will visit Riga on 11 August 2020. He will attend the celebrations marking the 100th anniversary of the Treaty of Peace between Latvia and Soviet Russia. Haavisto will also have discussions with Foreign Minister Edgars Rinkēvičs.

“Latvia is a close cooperation partner for Finland and I believe that there are opportunities for deepening our cooperation even further. A hundred years have passed since the signing of the peace treaty between Latvia and Soviet Russia, and it is important to consider together how the agreement has affected regional development and the content of the discourse on historical and political issues that are taking place today. I look forward to interesting discussions in Riga,” says Haavisto.

At their meeting, the Foreign Ministers will discuss the COVID-19 pandemic crisis, key security issues and transatlantic relations.
