Minister for Foreign Affairs Haavisto to a Nordic foreign ministerial meeting in Iceland

Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto will attend the Nordic foreign ministers' meeting in Borgarnes, Iceland, on 11 September.

“Iceland has organised an interesting meeting for us and I look forward to good discussions with the neighbouring Nordic countries,” says Minister for Foreign Affairs Pekka Haavisto.

On 12 September, Minister Haavisto's political State Secretary Johanna Sumuvuori will attend a foreign ministerial meeting of the Nordic-Baltic Eight (NB8).

The meetings will focus on topical security policy questions, including the safety of the Baltic Sea and the Arctic region, cyber and hybrid threats, Russia, and the Ukraine conflict. Topical European issues, such as the future of the European Union and climate change, will also be addressed.

The meetings will be chaired by Norway, which is responsible for coordinating the cooperation of the five Nordic countries (N5) and NB8 cooperation this year. The countries have held meetings at foreign ministerial level since the 1990s. Minister for Foreign Affairs Haavisto will also have a bilateral meeting with Minister for Foreign Affairs of Iceland Guðlaugur Þór Þórðarson.
