The foundation stone of the Finnish embassy in Stockholm set

The foundation stone of the new Finnish embassy in Stockholm was set on 11 July 2000. The Finnish Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja and his Swedish counterpart, Anna Lindh, both attended the event.

The Finnish embassy has operated from rented premises in Stockholm since 1974. Acquiring ownership over the embassy´s premises became topical in 1991, and an appropriate site for the building was found at the end of 1994.

Aside from office space and the consulate, the new embassy will also have a multipurpose area with halls and kitchens. In addition, a separate building with two apartments for staff will be built.

The new embassy building will be complited by 5 June 2001. The gross floor space will be 4500 m², and the overall cost of the project is 68,4 million Finnish marks.
