Finland suspends the reception and processing of ordinary visa and residence permit applications in the missions
Owing to the coronavirus outbreak, Finland, in line with the rest of the Schengen countries, has suspended the reception of normal visa applications in Finland’s missions with immediate effect from 19 March until further notice.
Finland supports Syrian children's access to education in Lebanon
Finland supports the access to education and child protection of children who have escaped the Syrian crisis to Lebanon. Through the UN Children’s Fund UNICEF, Finland will allocate EUR 3.7 million to supporting the most vulnerable children’s access to education.

Secretary of State Peter Stenlund to the ENP Foreign Ministers’ meeting in Barcelona
Secretary of State Peter Stenlund represents Finland at the Foreign Ministers’ meeting on the European Neighbourhood Policy (ENP), held in Barcelona on Monday, 13 April. At the meeting, the Southern ENP partner countries will present their views and hopes concerning the review of the neighbourhood policy.
Finland will open an embassy in Beirut in March
The temporary liaison office of Finland in Beirut will be changed to an embassy as from 1 March 2015. The change will strengthen relations between Finland and Lebanon and will improve the operating conditions of Finland in the Middle East. Aside from Lebanon, the activities of the diplomatic mission will encompass Syria, Iraq and Jordan.
Changes in Finland’s network of diplomatic missions
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs is making changes to Finland’s network of diplomatic missions as part of the central government’s savings. The changes arise from decisions to cut the Ministry’s appropriations for operating expenses. The embassies of Finland in Luxembourg, Bratislava (Slovakia) and Ljubljana (Slovenia) will be closed by the end of 2015.

Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja will participate in the ministerial level Conference on the Syrian Refugee Situation being held in Berlin on Tuesday, 28 October The conference is chaired by German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier together with Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development Gerd Müller and the UN High Commissioner for Refugees António Guterres.
