Presidency Statement on the death of four UNTSO observers in Lebanon

Press release 261/2006
26 July, 2006

It is with great shock the Presidency has learned that four UNTSO observers have been killed yesterday in an Israeli air strike targeting an observation post in southern Lebanon. Attacks against UN personnel are unacceptable.

Our deepest sympathies and condolences go out to the families of these observers who were working for the cause of peace.

The Presidency calls for an immediate and full inquiry into this event.

The Presidency again urges all parties to join the efforts to reach an end to the conflict that has already left hundreds of civilians dead and even more wounded.
