The Ministry of Foreign affairs supports several Finnish non-governmental organizations which work in Uganda primarily in the fields of education and healthcare. Finnfund has also invested in Uganda, for example in developing sustainable agroforestry. Finland has trained the East African Standby Force and organizes holistic crisis management courses. Many Ugandan soldiers, policemen and civilians have participated in the courses over the years. Higher education cooperation with Uganda has been going on for years, especially with Makerere University. Higher education cooperation has also expanded to partnerships in innovation, one of which is the “UniWASH" project, with the Finnish partners Finland’s Unicef, Aalto university and Biolan. Finland supports refugees that Uganda has taken on from neighboring countries through humanitarian aid (2,2 million in 2017).
