Joint Statement on the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia

We are proud to commemorate the International Day against Homophobia, Biphobia, and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT) as a celebration of diversity, inclusion, and tolerance around the world.

Today, we show our continuous support for those forced to live, love, and work in anonymity, and for those facing intolerance, prejudice, discrimination, and misunderstanding. We condemn any attempts to silence or discriminate against individuals or communities solely due to their sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression and sex characteristics. All people, including Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Intersex (LGBTI+) people and those belonging to other minorities, should be able to play a full, equal, and active part in society, and live in safe spaces.

This year’s theme, ‘Our Bodies, Our Lives, Our Rights,’ affirms that LGBTI+ people are entitled to the same freedoms, respect, and protections as everyone else. We stand with people around the world in solidarity affirming the dignity and equality of all people regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity and expression, or sex characteristics.

We encourage the Government of Kazakhstan and all governments around the world to protect the human rights of all their citizens. As the United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights states, all human beings are born free and equal in dignity and in rights. Countries that promote inclusion and diversity, where all citizens can live without fear of violence or discrimination, are more prosperous, peaceful, and secure. These universal rights and vision are also consistent with Kazakhstan’s new reform commitments and aspirations.
