Coronavirus advice for travellers: Ministry for Foreign Affairs monitors coronavirus situation
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Finland’s Missions are monitoring the impacts of the coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic in cooperation with the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), and they are in constant contact with key actors with regard to the situational picture and any necessary measures.
Updated Visa Code to apply from 2 February 2020
The EU is revising its Visa Code in order to facilitate visa procedures for travellers and to respond more effectively to the challenges posed by illegal migration. Finland will start applying the new Visa Code on 2 February 2020 together with other Schengen countries.
Finnish Minister of Social Affairs and Health in Japan: Solutions can be found to the challenges of an ageing society
Aino-Kaisa Pekonen, Minister of Social Affairs and Health, will visit Japan from 16 to 19 October. During the visit, Minister Pekonen will give a keynote speech at the Well Aging Society Summit and meet with Japan’s Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare Katsunobu Kato, State Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry Hideki Makihara, and Vice Minister of Health Yasuhiro Suzuki. Minister Pekonen will also learn about the situation of Japanese women and of those who have passed retirement age, and meet representatives of Finnish health sector companies.

Finland to participate in the meeting of the energy and environment ministers at the G20 Summit in Japan on 15–16 June
Japan has invited Finland to participate in the meeting of energy and environment ministers, which is part of the programme of Japan’s presidency of the G20 Summit. The Ministerial Meeting on Energy Transitions and Global Environment for Sustainable Growth will take place in Karuizawa on 15–16 June 2019. Finland is one of the so-called outreach countries invited to the meeting. The themes of the meeting are the global energy transition, climate and sustainable growth, prevention of ocean plastic pollution, and resource efficiency.
Finland expresses its gratitude for contributions to equality with special recognition – Chizuko Ueno from Japan among the first recipients
Finland places great significance on promoting equality in the world, and wishes to thank those who are working towards this common goal. To express its gratitude, Finland will be presenting special recognition to individuals and groups around the globe who are committed to advancing inclusivity in society. The names of the first recipients from 16 countries are released today, with one of the honours going to Chizuko Ueno, sociologist and Chairperson of Women’s Action Network in Japan.
Permanent State Secretary Anttonen to a festive Team Finland visit to Japan
Permanent State Secretary Matti Anttonen, accompanied by a business delegation, will visit Japan on 22–24 May 2019, where he will also participate in the events to celebrate the 100th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Finland and Japan.
