New Consul General to Mumbai and non-resident Ambassador to Micronesia

At the presidential session on 9 December, the President of the Republic appointed a new Consul General to Mumbai and a non-resident Ambassador to Micronesia.

The President of the Republic appointed Erik af Hällström to the post of Head of Mission at the Consulate General in Mumbai as of 1 January 2023. The Government appointed af Hällström as Counsellor for Foreign Affairs from 1 January 2023. He serves currently in special assignments at the Foreign Ministry’s Department for the Americas and Asia.  

Previously, af Hällström has served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Embassy of Finland in New Delhi in 2018–2021, as Desk Officer and Director in the Unit for UN and General Global Affairs in 2016–2018 and as Leader of Africa Policy in 2010–2015. He has held positions in Finland’s Embassies in Brazil and The Hague and in Finland’s Permanent Representation in Geneva.

af Hällström joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1996. He holds a Master’s degree in Social Sciences.

Non-resident Ambassador to Micronesia

The President of the Republic appointed Ambassador Tanja Jääskeläinen, Head of Mission at the Embassy of Finland in Tokyo, to serve as a non-resident Ambassador to Micronesia.
