Foreign Minister Stubb to the Middle East

Minister for Foreign Affairs Alexander Stubb will travel to the Middle East on 9–14 October as a member of the official delegation led by President of the Republic Tarja Halonen and Dr. Pentti Arajärvi. The programme includes official visits to Jordan and to the occupied Palestinian Territories and a State visit to Israel.

Minister Stubb will accompany the President during her meetings with King Abdullah II of Jordan, President Shimon Perez of Israel, and Palestinian President Mahmud Abbas. The discussions will concern the situation in the Middle East and other topical international issues.

In addition, Minister Stubb will meet, among others, Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh and Israeli Minister of Foreign Affairs Avigdor Liberman, as well as local experts on Middle East affairs.

Minister Stubb’s previous visit to Israel and the Palestinian Territories took place in September 2008. Riyad Al-Malki, Foreign Minister for the Palestinian National Authority, visited Helsinki in June 2010 and Foreign Minister Liberman of Israel in July 2010.
