New Ambassadors to Tel Aviv and to the Permanent Representation to the Council of Europe

At the presidential session on Friday 3 March, the President of the Republic appointed new Ambassadors to Tel Aviv and to the Permanent Representation to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.

Finland’s Embassy in Tel Aviv, Israel

At the presidential session on 3 March, the President of the Republic appointed Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Nina Nordström to the post of Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Tel Aviv as of 1 September 2023. Nordström will transfer to the Embassy in Tel Aviv from the post of Head of Mission at Finland’s Permanent Representation to the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. 

Her prior experience of working in the Diplomatic Service include the Permanent Mission of Finland to the UN in New York in 2011–2013, the Embassy in Tallinn in 2009–2011, the Embassy in Stockholm in 2004–2007 and the Embassy in Bucharest in 2003–2004. In the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, she has served ia. as Director of the Unit for Human Rights Policy at the Political Department. Nordström joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1999. 

Nordström holds a Doctor of Philosophy degree in international law from the European University Institute in Florence, a Master of Laws degree from the London School of Economics and a Licentiate of Political Sciences degree from Åbo Akademi University.

Permanent Representation to the Council of Europe, France

At its session on 2 March, the Government appointed Counsellor Sini Paukkunen-Mykkänen as Counsellor for Foreign Affairs as of 1 September 2023. The President of the Republic appointed Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Sini Paukkunen-Mykkänen to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Permanent Representation to the Council of Europe as of 1 September 2023. She will transfer to Strasbourg from the post of Director of the Unit for Policy Planning and Research at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. 

Paukkunen-Mykkänen has prior experience in the Diplomatic Service from the Embassy of Finland in Cairo in 2010 and from the Permanent Representation of Finland to the European Union in Brussels in 2003–2007. In the Ministry, her duties have included policy planning and research (2015–2023) and especially human rights and development policy. Paukkunen-Mykkänen joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 2001. 

Paukkunen-Mykkänen holds a PhD degree in Social Sciences and Master’s Degrees in Arts and in Theology.
