Finland given oral report by Israel on the Khiam incident

On Thursday, 14 September, Finland was given an oral report from Israel on the strike on the UN patrol base in Khiam, in which four peacekeepers from Finland, Austria, Canada and China lost their lives. Israel says that a written version of the report will be presented on Friday, 15 September. The report will be closely scrutinised in Finland so that as precise a picture as possible can be built up of how the incident came about.

The Prime Minister’s Office has convened a group of experts to assess the information received. The group comprises representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry of Defence and the Defence Staff and the Prime Minister’s Office.

Meanwhile, the UN is drafting its own report.
