Ministers for Nordic cooperation meet in Porvoo

Ministers for Nordic cooperation will meet under the leadership of Minister Thomas Blomqvist in Porvoo on 21–22 June 2021. The Ministers will discuss cooperation in times of crisis and the implementation of the common Nordic vision. According to Our Vision 2030, the Nordic region will be the most sustainable and integrated region in the world by 2030.

In the meeting, the Ministers will receive an overview of topical border restrictions. The Chair of the Freedom of Movement Council, Kimmo Sasi, will attend the meeting. In the overview, special attention will be given to the situation on the border regions, where the restrictions implemented due to the COVID-19 pandemic have had a significant impact of people’s everyday lives.  The Ministers will also exchange views on the strengthening of economic and project management and allocate joint Nordic funding to actions supporting free media in Belarus.

This will be the first meeting of Ministers for Nordic Cooperation to be held in person since the outbreak of the pandemic. Finland holds the Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2021. The meeting will be arranged with due regard to health security and in accordance with the valid restrictions imposed due to the pandemic.
