Finland has extended the possibility of applying for a visa for family members and relatives as of June 7, 2021

The Finnish Border Guard has extended the definition of relatives and family members entitled to necessary travel as of June 7, 2021.

According to the new definition in addition to the former persons belonging to Exception Group 2 (imperative family reasons) the following persons may submit a visa application:

  • Family member of a Finnish citizen and permanent resident permit holder: spouse, underage child, parent, parent-in-law and grandparent.
  • Visa applications may also be submitted by family members of the above mentioned persons (spouse and underage children) if they are traveling with a relative mentioned in the definition.
