President of Finland Tarja Halonen has been appointed co-chair of the UN High-level Panel on Global Sustainability. The Panel has been established by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon. President Halonen will act as chair together with President Jacob Zuma of South Africa.

Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb will make an official visit to India on 3-4 May. Stubb will be hosted by External Affairs Minister S.M. Krishna. The Ministers will discuss topical international and regional issues and Finnish-Indian relations.

Minister of Commerce and Industry Anand Sharma of India and Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Paavo Väyrynen signed a new agreement to promote economic cooperation between the two countries on 26 March. The agreement spurs, for instance, the exchange of information on statutes influencing the economy and trade. Both countries will appoint representatives to a joint commission that will meet at least every second year.
