European Higher Education Presented in Delhi on 24–26 November

For the first time ever, more than 100 European higher education institutions from more than 20 European countries gathered in New Delhi for the European Higher Education Fair on 24–26 November. The European Union had taken this initiative to provide an opportunity for the Indian students to get a close and direct insight into the diversity of European higher education, research, the high quality of education, and Europe in general.

The actual fair was preceded by the Asia-Link Symposium on 24 November. The Symposium focused on the theme "Academic cooperation and student mobility between India and Europe". Other significant themes discussed were the relevance of the Bologna Process for India, and the strengthening of the India-EU academic and institutional collaboration.

The aim of the Symposium was to set the platform for high-level international dialogue between high-ranking Indian and European officials and other relevant stakeholders. In addition, the Symposium aimed at promoting both regional and multilateral networking between higher education institutions in Europe and India. The Ambassador of Finland to India, H.E. Mr. Asko Numminen, addressed the Symposium audience on behalf of the current EU Presidency.

During the actual fair, more than 100 universities and their representatives introduced a great variety of academic opportunities for Indian students who thus had the possibility of receiving first-hand and up-to-date information about degree programmes and structures in Europe.

The University of Jyväskylä, Lappeenranta University of Technology, Åbo Akademi University, and Helsinki Education and Research Area participated in the event from Finland. Moreover, the Centre for International Mobility (CIMO) delivered information about the Finnish education system and academic exchange programmes in general.

After India, the European Commission will organise the EHEF and the Asia-Link Symposium in China, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.

In India, the EHEF follows up on the EU-India Joint Action Plan, where cooperation in the fields of higher education and academic exchanges have been identified as a field of great mutual potential.
