Ambassador to Indonesia and Head of Mission to Consulate General in Hong Kong

At the presidential session on Friday 13 May, the President of the Republic appointed a new Ambassador to the Embassy of Finland in Jakarta and a new Head of Mission to the Consulate General in Hong Kong.

The President of the Republic appointed Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Pekka Kaihilahti to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Jakarta, starting on 1 September 2022. Kaihilahti will move to Jakarta from the Ministry, where he has been Deputy Director General of the Department for the Americas and Asia since 2018.

Previously, Kaihilahti has served as Deputy Head of Mission at the Mission of Finland to NATO and at the Embassies of Finland in Mexico and Brazil, among other positions.

Kaihilahti joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1999. He holds the degree of Master of Social Sciences.

Consulate General in Hong Kong

The President of the Republic appointed Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Timo Kantola to serve as Head of Mission at Finland’s Consulate General in Hong Kong, starting on 1 September 2022. Kantola will move to Hong Kong from the post of Finland’s Ambassador to Estonia in Tallinn.

He has previously served as Deputy Director General and Director of Unit in the Political Department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, among other positions. Kantola served as Head of Mission at Finland’s Embassy in Vienna from 2010 to 2013. He has also worked at the Embassies of Finland in Ankara and Brussels.

Kantola joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1988. He holds the degrees of Master of Social Sciences and Master of Laws.

 

In addition, the President of the Republic authorised Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Hannu Ripatti, Roving Ambassador based at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, to represent Finland also in Pakistan.
