Partnerships between industry and universities work well in Finland. One of the world’s leading dental technology companies Planmeca Oy(Link to another website.) (Opens New Window) and the University of Turku (Link to another website.) (Opens New Window)established a joint venture company, Nordic Institute of Dental Education (Link to another website.) (Opens New Window)(NIDE). This Finland-based company offers high-quality education courses for international dental professionals. The courses, accredited according to the European Credit Transfer System (ECTS) and commencing this autumn, are organized at the University of Turku and in Planmeca’s headquarters in Helsinki. The topics are related to rapidly evolving dental technologies and their application in modern dentistry such as 3D imaging and CAD/CAM technologies.

Ms. Jenni Pajunen, CEO of the Nordic Institute of Dental Education, explains that the aim of the joint venture is to export and share the exceptional Nordic know-how in digital dentistry, utilizing the academic qualifications of the University of Turku and high technologies developed by Planmeca.  Moreover, this kind of a partnership enables the renowned Finnish University to participate in the export of the well-known Finnish education.

Ms. Katerina Orovchanec, Planmeca’s Area Manager for Balkan and Adriatics says that several dental clinics in Croatia and Macedonia are already equipped with Planmeca products thanks to the local distributors. The company has just recently launched a project called the Planmeca Digital Academy, which is a great opportunity also for Croatian and Macedonian universities to start cooperating with leading Finnish experts in dentistry, as well as, Planmeca’s global network.

Finland wants to support Croatia in its efforts to profile itself as a new dental tourism destination. Croatia has excellent dental care professionals, and together with Finnish counterparts in the field, Croatia could reach its goal of creating a network of dental clinics equipped with modern technology and the most advanced equipment.
