Nordic, Baltic, German and Polish Ambassadors in Zagreb held a press conference on the Marienborg Declaration, which was signed on August 30 at the Baltic Sea Energy Security Summit. The Declaration calls for regional cooperation on renewable energy projects, wind power, and fuel imported by sea to bolster Europe’s energy security.

In his comments, Ambassador Kalle Kankaanpää noted how Croatia and Finland can work together on energy issues and Croatia’s shift from fossil fuels to carbon neutrality. This shift would also increase energy security in the region. Kankaanpää underlined Finland’s experience in renewable energy and how Finnish know-how is being shared. For example, Croatia’s Encro and Finland’s Taaleri Energia are building a wind farm near Zadar, which will power 85 000 households in Dalmatia.

The press conference was organized by the Embassy of Denmark in Croatia. In addition to the Ambassadors of Denmark, Finland, Sweden, Lithuania, Germany and Poland, the press conference was also attended by the Special Advisor to the Croatian President for Energy and Climate, Mr. Julije Domac.
