Embassy of Finland participated in the annual ENO Tree Planting Day on the 22nd of September. The students of IX Gimnazija in Zagreb planted a cherry tree in their schoolyard. The school is located in the Trešnjevka district, which was named after its cherry trees (trešnja is Croatian for cherry). On this occasion, Deputy Head of Mission Ville Andersson addressed the students and staff of this highschool, and emphasised the importance of working together to achieve a common goal. He also said that even one person can make a difference, referring to the fact that the ENO project is the result of one man's efforts and hard work, namely the founder Mika Vanhanen. The event also featured speeches from the students about the Trešnjevka district and the importance of taking care of the trees and parks there. Not only are trees essential to the environment and air quality but they also give people the feeling of being close to nature, which is especially important in the city. After the tree planting, a song was performed by the school choir.

ENO (Environment Online) is a global virtual school and network for sustainable development. It was launched in Finland in 2000 by Mika Vanhanen. Two tree planting days take place every year: in May for biodiversity and in September for peace. So far, 17 million trees have been planted, and the goal is to plant 100 million by the year 2017. This year's tree planting was also the 10th anniversary of the Tree Planting Day.
