Visa Application Centre opens up in Hong Kong to ease applying for a Schengen Visa to Finland, Denmark, Iceland, Norway and Sweden
Finland is outsourcing the submission of Schengen visa applications in Hong Kong. Finland Visa Application Centre maintained by VFS Global will be opened up in Hong Kong in April 2018.

Advance voting in Hong Kong in the Finnish presidential election of 2018
In the presidential election of 2018, advance voting will be organised in Hong Kong in the first round of election from 17th to 20th January 2018. If a second round is organised, the advance voting period will be from 31st January to 3rd February 2018.

Santa Claus (Land) is Coming to You
The Standard of Hong Kong published a supplement for the Independence Day of Finland on December 6. In it Consul-General Jari Sinkari shed light on the events of the 100th anniversary and invited Hongkongers to the remaining festivities of the year, as well as to visit Finland.

Summer party invited Hongkongers to celebrate a 100-year-young Nordic Country
We love Finland – Finland 100 Summer party brought recently together 140 party-goers to Scandinavian restaurant FINDS. Guests enjoyed Finnish treats, beverages and music. Visual feeling was created with fresh flowers and a compilation of memorable moments of several Finnish black-and-white movies portraying summer scenes that was beamed to the backdrop of dance floor.

State funeral of former Finnish president Mauno Koivisto on 25 May
The state funeral of former President of the Republic of Finland Mauno Koivisto will be held on Thursday 25 May. The funeral service will take place at 13.00 in Helsinki Cathedral. The service will be conducted by Bishop Eero Huovinen. Mauno Koivisto will be buried with full military honours in the section of Hietaniemi Cemetery that includes the graves of former Finnish presidents Urho Kekkonen and Risto Ryti.

Safe food from Finland
Finnish food is produced in extreme conditions. Thanks to the cold winters and light summers the quality is excellent. Cold winters kill off bugs which also means less need for pesticides. Abundant summer light makes the growing season intense. Recent agreements with food safety authorities pave way for Finnish beef, eggs and egg products to Hong Kong.

Big year for an active minority
There are about 300 Finns living among 7.3 million Hongkongers. To make themselves visible they teamed up to present their culture and business know-how on May 10, together with such iconic characters as Santa Claus, Moomintroll and Angry Birds. Finland 100 Expo gathered more than 400 Hongkongers to touch, feel and learn the Finnish offering that spans from fish lures to elevators, from education technology to sustainable chocolate, from direct flights to indoor air quality.
