In the Destination of Excellence in Finland (DEEF) competition, Wild Taiga has been selected as Finland’s emerging tourist destination 2008, highlighting the local culture and way of life.

High-level representatives from the five countries holding the 2007-2011 OSCE Chairmanships met today at the invitation of this year’s OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Finnish Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb, to discuss enhanced co-ordination and common priority areas.

In 2002 a newspaper began in earnest to investigate the history of SMS. Among those interviewed was Matti Makkonen. He described the process of how work on the innovation had progressed, but he named no names for the source of the concept.Many interviews later, it began to dawn on the journalist, where the idea had come from. It was Makkonen himself who admitted to being the father of SMS.

The 8th European Jazz Festival in Athens will take place between 285.-1.6.2008 in the City of Athens Technopolis Cultural Centre. Finland will be represented at the festival, this year by The Sami Linna Quartet on Sunday 1st June at 10 pm.
