Finland’s centenary of independence kicks off on New Year’s Eve in Helsinki

The celebration of the 100th anniversary of Finnish independence begins on New Year’s Eve, Saturday 31 December 2016. The party begins around noon near Helsinki’s Töölönlahti Bay and culminates in the Party of the Century at Kansalaistori Square between 9:00 pm and 01:00 am.

Expect an historical and unforgettable evening with a great programme in the heart of Finland’s capital – even the main street, Mannerheimintie, will turn into a dance floor!

  • Töölönlahti Bay area offers lots of fun things for the whole family to see and do, beginning early in the day! There will be a Pikku Kakkonen’s Children’s party on the Opera Outdoor Stage at 1:00 pm and 3:00 pm.
  • Park Stage The pre-party venue between the Opera and Finlandia Hall gets busy in the early evening. A dream line-up of popular up-and-coming artists, including DJ Kridlokk, Astrid Swan, The Holy, Kingfish, Seksikäs Suklaa, Dosdela and VG+, plus a dance performance produced by the Random Life collective.
  • Kansalaistori Square The favourite DJs for the Tavastia Club Lauantaidisko (Saturday Disco) will raise the beat and keep you warm. The best ever street party will extend all the way on to Mannerheimintie.
  • At midnight, with the magnificentfireworks show at Töölönlahti Bay, the 100th anniversary year of Finland’s independence will officially begin. The dazzling display will take the spectators on a tour through Finland and its four seasons. The display will be visible throughout the event area. After the fireworks show, theparty continues at Kansalaistori Square until 01:00.
