The Finland emoji summer edition features white nights and summery enthusiasms

Finland publishes a new set of Finland emojis today, on the Day of the Finnish Identity. The original Finland emoji collection is joined by 17 emojis featuring Finnish summer. Finland was the first country in the world to publish its own national emojis in December 2015.

White nights

The summer set of Finland emojis includes, among other things, a Midsummer bonfire, a kettle grill, bilberries and the national game Finnish baseball. Due to popular demand, the summer emoji collection includes the Finnhorse and the Saimaa ringed seal.

Some of the emotions are represented by an internationally known Finn, as in the set launched earlier. Famous Finns represented in the new emojis are Finland's most successful football player ever Jari Litmanen and superstars in the world of music, the conductor Susanna Mälkki and the heavysoprano Tarja Turunen. Moominmamma joins the Finland emoji collection from the Moomin Characters' own set of Moomin emojis.

The first Finland emoji collection, which was produced by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and published on the ThisisFINLAND country brand website as a Christmas calendar, has been a phenomenal success around the world.

“Our emojis that were published before Christmas have reached around 200 million people globally. We wanted to complement the emoji collection by highlighting summertime in Finland, because the four seasons and their impact on us is linked to Finland and the Finnish character. We have avoided being straight-laced in the summer-themed emoji collection,” says Petra Theman, Director for Public Diplomacy.

All the 49 Finland emojis are available to download in Finland emojis application for free on Android devices from the Google Play store and later this month they will also be available for iOS devices from the App Store. The emojis can also be downloaded for all devices as images from ThisisFINLAND at finland.fi/emoji(Link to another website.). ThisisFINLAND's emoji pages provide a short representation of each of the emoji backgrounds. In addition to the usual ThisisFINLAND languages (English, Spanish, Chinese, Russian, German, French, Portuguese) the emojis are published in Japanese as emojis originate from Japan.

Finland emojis are published as stickers so that they appear the same in all devices. Finland is applying for inclusion in the Unicode Standard with four previously launched emojis. If the Finland emojis are added to the Unicode Emojis, they will be ready in all devices' emoji keypads and available for use within text in text messages and all social media channels. The Finland emojis were designed by Art Director Bruno Leo Ribeiro together with the Ministry for Foreign Affairs.
