Advance voting abroad in Finland’s municipal elections

In the municipal elections, advance voting is possible in 125 Finnish diplomatic or consular missions and their offices in 78 different countries. Advance voting abroad will be organised between 29 March and 1 April 2017.

The Ministry for Foreign Affairs is responsible for the organisation of advance voting in Finland’s diplomatic or consular missions and offices abroad as well as on board Finnish ships sailing outside the Finnish territory on the dates of advance voting.

All those who are entitled to vote may cast their vote in advance at the advance polling stations or abroad. On board Finnish ships, only the crew members who are entitled to vote may cast their vote in advance.

In municipal elections, councillors are elected to municipal councils. Municipal elections are organised every fourth year; this year the official election day is Sunday, 9 April.

The Ministry of Justice, which is the highest election authority in Finland, carries the overall responsibility for the conduct of the elections. The Ministry of Justice has published a list of the advance polling stations and their opening hours at vaalit.fi(Link to another website.) (Opens New Window).
