National veterans' day

National veterans' day (Finnish: kansallinen veteraanipäivä) is a remembrance day for all the war veterans in Finland. On the iniative of the war veteran organizations the state council (cabinet) declared 27th April, 1986 the national veterans' day.

About 15 000 men and 11 000 women veterans were alive in the beginning of year 2015.  3200 of them had been injured in war while the average age is over 90 years.

There is one main event and several smaller main events in the various regions and many local events. Among the events there are services in the Evangelical Lutheran churches, honorary guards on the war hero thombs, deposing wreath and the collecting money for the charity of the last war veterans' needs.
