OSCE Chairmanship countries discuss Georgia, pledge enhanced co-ordination ahead of December Ministerial Council
Foreign Ministers from the five countries holding the 2007-2011 OSCE Chairmanships met today at the invitation of this year's OSCE Chairman-in-Office, Finnish Foreign Minister Stubb, to discuss Georgia and ways to strengthen OSCE action. They agreed the OSCE should continue to play an active role in the implementation of the ceasefire agreement and in seeking a lasting settlement to the conflicts in Abkhazia and South Ossetia, coordinating efforts with the United Nations and the European Union. -

The EU to send 200 observers to Georgia
The European Union has decided to implement its civilian crisis mission and to deploy about 200 observers in Georgia. The Foreign Ministers of the Member States confirmed launching of the mission at the EU General Affairs and External Relations Council held in Brussels on Monday, 15 September. “This is one of the most rapidly launched missions in the European Union’s history,” Foreign Minister Stubb said in Brussels. -

Crisis in Georgia challenge for OSCE arms control and confidence-building regime, Finnish official says
The crisis in Georgia has changed the politico-military situation in the OSCE area in a way that must be taken into account by the OSCE and its Forum for Security Co-operation (FSC), Pauli Järvenpää, the head of the defence policy department at the Finnish Defence Ministry, told the Forum today. -

Finland hopes for a common EU position on the crisis in Georgia
On Friday 29 August, the joint meeting of the President of the Republic and the Cabinet Committee on Foreign and Security Policy, and the meeting of the Cabinet Committee on European Union Affairs discussed the crisis in Georgia. The issue will be addressed at the extraordinary European Council meeting scheduled for 1 September in Brussels. -

Finland to participate in the OSCE military monitoring mission in Georgia
The President of the Republic has decided today, 26 August, that Finland will participate in the military monitoring mission in Georgia undertaken by the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe. Finland will send at most ten military monitoring officers to Georgia. The matter was discussed today during the Government’s extraordinary Presidential session. -

Foreign Minister Stubb met refugees in Georgia
Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb acquainted himself with the humanitarian situation in Georgia on Thursday. In Gori he met with the Red Cross, World Food Programme and the Governor of Gori.
