Foreign Ministers of Finland and Georgia discussed the relations between the countries
“Finland and Georgia have very good relations, and the countries have extensive cooperation in various fields of operation,” Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja said in a press conference he held with Foreign Minister of Georgia Grigol Vashadze in Helsinki on 4 November.
The Ministers discussed bilateral relations between Finland and Georgia, Georgia’s relations with the European Union and Georgia’s relations with the neighbouring countries, including Russia, Turkey and other Caucasus region countries. Minister Tuomioja was of the opinion that the countries shared quite similar views on these topics. At the end of the conference, Minister Vashadze expressed a wish that the WTO agreement with Russia could be signed soon.
Minister Vashadze opened the Embassy of Georgia in Finland on 3 November. Earlier, the closest Georgian Embassy was located in Sweden. The street address of the new embassy building is Mikonkatu 18. Foreign Minister Vashadze also gave an introductory speech at the 'Georgia in the European Context – the View from Tbilisi’ seminar organised by STETE (the Finnish Committee for European Security) and the Embassy of Georgia.
During his visit to Finland, Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze met also Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade Alexander Stubb and Minister for International Development Heidi Hautala.
