Georgian Foreign Minister thanked Finland for her support
The issues discussed by the ministers during their talks were bilateral relations between Finland and Georgia, the present situation in Georgia and relations with the European Union as well as topical international affairs.
Stubb stated that the Georgian operation was the fastest mission ever launched by the European Union. Finland has given Georgia 3 million euros in economic support and has sent a total of 16 observers and experts to the country. In Stubb’s view, Finland’s role has been recognized not only by Georgia but also by Russia, most recently during Russian President Dmitry Medvedev’s state visit to Finland.
With regard to the NATO Partnership for Peace exercise in Georgia, one should not make a mountain out of a molehill. The decision on this exercise open to Partnership for Peace participants had already been made a couple of years ago, Foreign Minister Stubb added. Foreign Minister Vashadze’s agenda also included talks with Minister for Foreign Trade and Development Paavo Väyrynen and Minister of Migration and European Affairs Astrid Thors, as well as delivery of a speech at the University of Helsinki.
