Finland Supports International Mediation

The Political Department in the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland grants on an annual basis discretionary subsidies to internationally active organizations to support their mediation activities and strengthen mediation related capacity building.

As there are no specific deadlines, funding can be granted throughout the year within the available appropriations.

Applications are assessed and funding is granted on the basis of the project's expected impact and how the project's activities suit Finland's foreign policy goals in conflict resolution and mediation. The organization's past experience in conflict resolution and mediation will also influence the evaluation.

In line with Finland's objectives, particular emphasis is placed on conflict resolution efforts that focus on local ownership and skills, women's participation in peace processes, civil society's role in peace work and dialogue between religions.
