The ILO’s Annual International Labour Conference in Geneva started by a meeting at a high level

The ILO’s International Labour Conference convenes every June in Geneva. The top-level meetings of the Conference started in the Palais des Nations on Tuesday 10 June 2003. The Finnish Minister of Labour, Ms Tarja FILATOV, addressed the Conference on the first day, discussing topical issues related to international working life. President LULA of Brazil and President MBEKI of the Republic of South Africa have also addressed the Conference already.

In accordance with the ILO’s tripartite principle of representation, Minister Filatov’s delegation consists of both the government and employer and worker organizations. The Minister returned to Finland on the evening of 11 June.


Members of the Employment and Equality Committee of Parliament

Minister Filatov and the members of the Employment and Equality Committee of Parliament, who participate in the ILO Conference, met Finns active in the international organizations based in Geneva and members of the Finnish colony in Geneva on the evening of Tuesday, 9 June, during a reception arranged by Ambassador Pekka Huhtaniemi and his spouse Liisa Huhtaniemi. The weather was exceptionally agreeable and warm on that evening in Geneva.
