The Nordic Council of Ministers aims to strengthen the Nordic countries' international brand through culinary experiences. One way of doing this is to through a more conscious use of raw ingredients in the Nordic embassies and the Nordic companies around the world.

New non-permanent members on UN Security Council elected in New York
The UN General Assembly has voted on the member states to take up five non-permanent seats on the UN Security Council. The election took place in New York on 18 October. South Korea, Argentina, Rwanda, Australia and Luxembourg were elected. Finland was a candidate of the Western European and Others Group (WEOG).

Unpicking social conventions - Pilvi Takala's 'Breaching Experiments' in Sheffield
Over the past decade, Finnish artist Pilvi Takala has developed a body work which unpicks those conventions created within micro-social environments. 'Breaching Experiments' brings together several of Takala’s recent film based works as well as two performances.

Laura Hyppönen’s East London film nominated best UK picture at Raindance
Laura Hyppönen’s debut film 'Live East Die Young' has received a nomination for best UK feature film at this year’s Raindance Film Festival. “It’s great that an edgy independent no-budget film like mine has been recognised among recent UK successes”, says Hyppönen, who has produced, written and directed the film.

Finland a candidate to join the UN Security Council
Finland is a candidate for a non-permanent seat on the UN Security Council during 2013–2014. The Council is a main body of the UN and is responsible for maintaining international peace and security. Finland's advantages are its long-term commitment to the operations of the UN, independent foreign policy and an operating capacity which relies on competent administration of foreign affairs.

Roy Hodgson awarded for his work as Finland manager
England football manager Roy Hodgson has been honoured with the Knight, First Class, of the Order of the Lion of Finland. Mr Hodgson was the manager of the Finnish national team from January 2006 to November 2007. Under Hodgson, Finland reached its highest ever FIFA ranking to date.
