Embassy of Finland monitors coronavirus situation in the UK
Updated 18/3: The World Health Organisation (WHO) has declared the coronavirus epidemic a pandemic. The risk of coronavirus infection has increased throughout Europe and around the world. Due to this very exceptional situation, Finns travelling abroad are encouraged to return to Finland as soon as possible. Also, follow the information and instructions published by the British authorities, and make a travel notification whenever you are abroad.

Portable passport units visits to Manchester and Glasgow in April and May cancelled
The planned customer service in Manchester and Glasgow this spring has been cancelled due to the situation with corona virus. We will aim to organise the visits later this year. All customers who have booked an appointment will be contacted and informed.

Coronavirus advice for travellers: Ministry for Foreign Affairs monitors coronavirus situation
The Ministry for Foreign Affairs and Finland’s Missions are monitoring the impacts of the coronavirus (COVID-19) epidemic in cooperation with the Finnish Institute for Health and Welfare (THL), and they are in constant contact with key actors with regard to the situational picture and any necessary measures.

Portable passport unit in Birmingham -- visits to Manchester and Glasgow have been cancelled
Embassy of Finland will temporarily have a portable passport device in the UK. The Embassy will process passport and ID card applications in Birmingham on Thursday 12 March and Friday 13 March 2020. Please note that the planned customer service in Manchester and Glasgow have been cancelled due to the situation with corona virus.

Updated Visa Code to apply from 2 February 2020
The EU is revising its Visa Code in order to facilitate visa procedures for travellers and to respond more effectively to the challenges posed by illegal migration. Finland will start applying the new Visa Code on 2 February 2020 together with other Schengen countries.

UK and EU to start negotiations on their new relationship
The UK will withdraw from the EU when the EU–UK withdrawal agreement enters into force on 1 February 2020. The withdrawal agreement dismantles all cooperation based on the UK’s EU membership in an orderly manner and provides for a transition period until the end of 2020, during which the relationship between the EU and the UK will continue under the current EU rules.
