UK Foreign Secretary David Miliband to visit Finland

David Miliband, Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs of the United Kingdom, will hold talks with Foreign Minister Ilkka Kanerva in Helsinki on Wednesday, 19 March. Miliband will also meet with Prime Minister Matti Vanhanen.

The European Union’s relations with Russia and developments in the Western Balkans are among the topics to be discussed by the foreign ministers. Measures to combat climate change will also be discussed.

In addition, Foreign Secretary Miliband and Foreign Minister Kanerva will meet with members of the Foreign and Security Policy Youth Group established jointly by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs and the Finnish Youth Co-operation – Allianssi. The Foreign and Security Policy Youth Group will hold its first meeting on Wednesday.

The talks of Prime Minister Vanhanen and Foreign Secretary Miliband will focus on enhancing the European Union’s effectiveness.
