You can bet your shirt on Helsinki: Kaarina Kaikkonen’s unusual art near the Old Church.

Helsinki citizens prepare for celebrations to mark Helsinki Day by cooling off in the city's parks and heading for the beach.

The Finnish capital has been basking in an early summer heat wave, but luckily there is always a park or a beach nearby to cool down in.

Some head straight for the water, others limber up beneath the trees near the Finlandia Hall or relax with an ice cream in the Esplanade. Wherever you go, there is a sense of relief that summer is finally here after the long and testing winter. It's simply the best time of the year to be in Helsinki.
