New Head of Mission to the Mission of Finland to NATO and a new COPS representative

At the presidential session on Friday 24 April, the President of the Republic decided to appoint Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Piritta Asunmaa to serve as Head of the Mission of Finland to NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) in Brussels from 1 September 2015.

Ms Asunmaa is currently Finland's representative in the EU's Political and Security Committee (PSC) in Brussels.

She served at Finland's Mission to NATO also from 2005 to 2009. She has gained experience of Diplomatic Service posts also, for example, in the Embassies of Finland in Washington and Paris.

In the Ministry Asunmaa has served, for example, as Deputy Director of the Department of Communications and Culture and Special Adviser to the Minister for Foreign Affairs. Asunmaa joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1992.

Ambassador Sofie From-Emmesberger has been appointed Ambassador Asunmaa's successor in the Political and Security Committee from 1 September. Ms From-Emmesberger is currently serving as Head of the Mission of Finland in Nairobi.
