Baltic Sea is the most polluted sea in the world. What can we do?
Only through international cooperation between the public and private sectors can we help the Baltic Sea. The Baltic Sea Action Summit in Helsinki will offer a platform to contribute to the carrying out of these actions. On 4 November, the Finnish Embassy is organizing a seminar in which the Baltic Sea Action Group will share information about the February Summit. Estonian companies will also give examples of what they have done, and can still do, to improve the state of the Baltic Sea.
Foreign Minister Stubb to attend the foreign minister meeting of Nordic Countries and Baltic States in Iceland
On Thursday 20 August, Foreign Minister Alexander Stubb will attend the dinner of the foreign minister meeting of Nordic Countries and Baltic States – the so-called NB8 Group – to be organised in Reykjavik, Iceland. The topics of discussion will include the ongoing Swedish EU Presidency, Iceland’s EU membership application, the economic crisis and its impacts in the participating countries, and the situation in Afghanistan.
Fingerprints to be included in new passports as from 29 June
As from 29 June, all new passports issued in Finland will include fingerprints. Under the Council Regulation on standards for security features and biometrics in passports and other travel documents, Member States are obliged to introduce fingerprints in national passports and travel documents by the end of June 2009. Fingerprints are the second biometric identifier to be included in national passports.
