Winner of next Millennium Technology Prize to be announced on 15 June

The one-million-Euro “Millennium Technology Prize”, the world’s biggest technology award, recognises innovation that has potential for present and future positive impact on the quality of our lives.

The prize has its origin in Finland.

The aim of the Millennium Technology Prize is to bring technology closer to the people. It seeks to highlight innovations that assist us – by enriching our everyday lives –and show promise for future development. The winner of the 2006 Millennium Technology Prize will be announced in Finland on 15 June.

The award is Finland’s recognition for life-enhancing innovation and is made by the Millennium Prize Foundation, an independent fund established by Finnish industry in partnership with the Finnish state. Modern Finland is a welfare state, and global leader in competitiveness and technology.

The award ceremony itself will be take place in conjunction with the ECOFIN meeting later this year, in September.

The first-ever Millennium Technology Prize, in 2004, was awarded to Tim Berners-Lee for the invention of the World Wide Web.

The ceremony to announce the Millennium Technology Prize Winner 2006 will take place on 15 June at the Dipoli Congress Centre, Espoo, Finland.
