The Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland, and the Representation of the European Commission in Estonia organised a conference entitled The Renewed Northern Dimension: A Tool for Enhanced Regional and Cross-Border Cooperation, which was held in Tallinn on June 9th.

The conference offered insights into achievements made thus far, as well as future prospects of the Northern Dimension.

A key objective of the conference was to introduce the so-called “new concept” of the Northern Dimension, and to share information about the opportunities the Northern Dimension creates.

The Northern Dimension is one of the main topics on the external relations agenda of the Finnish EU Presidency.

Conference attendees included representatives of parliament, ministries, regional administrative bodies, the business community, and a wide range of social figures from Estonia, as well as neighbouring countries.

In addition to Estonian and Finnish Foreign Ministers, Erkki Tuomioja and Urmas Paet, the keynote speakers included ministers and experts from other countries of the region, as well as from the European Commission.

The working languages of the conference were English and Estonian. Simultaneous translation into Russian was also provided.

The final seminar programme is available at the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs website: www.vm.ee.
