Baltic Sea Action Summit 2010 Preparatory Seminar in Tallinn, 4 November 2009

The Baltic Sea is the world’s most polluted sea. Urgent action must be taken. Only through international cooperation between the public and private sectors can we make a change for the better. The problems are clear; the time to do something is now.

Baltic Sea Action SummitAn initiative, bringing together representatives from a variety of sectors and an array of countries, has been launched by the Finnish President, Tarja Halonen, along with the Finnish Prime Minister, Matti Vanhanen, and the Baltic Sea Action Group. This project will culminate with the Baltic Sea Action Summit 2010, to take place in Helsinki in February. Leaders from all countries bordering the Baltic Sea have been invited. Representatives from businesses and organizations which intent to make a specific commitment for action to improve the state of the Baltic Sea will also be invited.

In the lead up to the Summit, state leaders as well as businesses and other organizations have the opportunity to take on a binding commitment for action. All participants are able to take part on their own terms, giving, at the same time, the potential for positive development in their business activities. Baltic Sea Action Summit will be held on February 10, 2010.
