20 January 2014

Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja will visit Tromsø in northern Norway on 20–21 January. He will participate in the eighth Arctic Frontiers Conference, where he will deliver a talk entitled “Developing Strong Northern Communities”. Erna Solberg, Prime Minister of Norway, and Aleqa Hammond, Prime Minister of Greenland, will speak at the same event.

The theme of the Arctic Frontiers Conference is “Humans in the Arctic”. This is one of the most important arenas about the Arctic, and this year more than 1,000 people from 25 different countries are expected.

While in Tromsø Tuomioja will also take part in the inauguration of Finland House. The main task of Finland House is to help Finnish enterprises get a foothold on the Norwegian market. Finland House presents Finnish enterprises and their know-how but also offers its services to Norwegian enterprises interested in exporting to Finland and disseminates information about the investment opportunities offered by Finland. At the same time it also aims to promote research and development cooperation, tourism and cultural relations.

In Tromsø the Foreign Minister will also meet with Norwegian Prime Minister Erna Solberg, whose term of office began in October 2013. In addition, Tuomioja will discuss current Arctic issues with Bård Glad Pedersen, State Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway.

During his visit, Tuomioja will also meet with Norwegian and Finnish business representatives.
