Foreign Minister Tuomioja met President of Moldova

Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja met with the President of Moldova Vladimir Voronin on Friday, January 4 in Helsinki. In their inofficial talks President Voronin told to Tuomioja about the political and economical situation in Moldova and the problems in the region of Transnyestria. Minister Tuomioja told about Finland´s activities relating to Moldova within the European Union and the OSCE.

The enlargement of the EU will make Moldova its close neighbour. According to Foreign Minister Tuomioja Finland´s experience on cooperation over the border between the EU and Russia could play a model to Moldova, when Romania joins the EU in the future.

President Voronin is in Finland on a private holiday.
