Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja to attend the Munich Security Conference

The annual Munich Security Conference is being held this year from 31 January to 2 February.  The conference will address current global security issues and security challenges.

 This year, the conference will discuss, among other topics, the crisis in Syria and the Middle East peace process, European defence and security in cyberspace.

 As in previous years, leading figures in foreign and security policy from around the world will attend the conference. Among the participants expected at the conference are UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, US Secretary of State John Kerry, US Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and the Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.  All in all, nearly twenty Heads of State and almost fifty foreign or defence ministers are expected to arrive for the conference. 

Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja will represent Finland at the meeting.

 During the conference, Foreign Minister Tuomioja will have bilateral meetings with, among others, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif.
