Statement by Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja on the UN Security Council resolution on Iraq

It is encouraging that after lengthy negotiations the UN Security Council has unanimously adopted a new resolution on Iraq. The resolution facilitates an immediate resumption and unimpeded execution of the arms inspection task. The unconditional implementation of all the obligations of the resolution must be secured.

I hope the new resolution will facilitate a peaceful solution to the crisis in Iraq by verifying the disarmament of Iraq´s weapons of mass destruction.
