Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic Jan Kavan visits Finland


Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic Jan Kavan visits Finland on 26 March. The discussions with Foreign Minister Tuomioja will concentrate on the questions related to the European Union, to the EU membership negotiations of the Czech Republic, as well as to the bilateral relations of the Czech Republic and Finland.

During his visit, Foreign Minister Kavan will meet Prime Minister Paavo Lipponen and members of the Grand Committee of the Parliament. Foreign Minister Kavan will also meet with the former Prime Minister of Finland, Harri Holkeri, who was until recently, the President of the United Nations General Assembly.

During the past years, high level visits between Finland and the Czech Republic have been frequent. Last February, Foreign Minister Tuomioja visited Prague, the Speaker of the Parliament Riitta Uosukainen visited the Czech Republic in April and Prime Minister Lipponen in May. Foreign Minister Kavan’s previous visit to Finland was in October 1999 and Prime Minister Zeman visited Finland in March 2000.
