Finland on Iraq

Press release by the Finnish Government 20 September, 2002


The situation in Iraq was discussed by President Tarja Halonen and the foreign and security committee of the Finnish government on Friday, 20 September. It was agreed that Iraq must abide by the UN Security Council resolutions and allow for an unobstructed operation of the UN arms inspectors. The preference for a peaceful solution to the crisis was emphasised.

Finland also expects a UN Security Council mandate for the use of military force against Iraq.
