New Ambassador to Copenhagen

On Friday 10 March, the President of the Republic appointed Counsellor for Foreign Affairs Vesa Vasara as Head of the Finnish Embassy in Copenhagen from 1 September 2017.

Vesa Vasara has been Deputy Director of the Department for Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia since September 2014. Before that he served as Director of the Unit for Northern Europe.

In the Diplomatic Service, Vasara has worked as Deputy Head of Mission in Tallinn and as Deputy Permanent Representative in the Permanent Mission of Finland to the OSCE in Vienna.

His career includes posts in the Finnish Embassies in Berlin, Bonn and Moscow as well as in the secretariat of the Stability Pact for South-Eastern Europe in Brussels.

In the Ministry, he has served in the Department for Europe, the Department for Press and Culture, and the Department for External Economic Relations.

Vasara joined the Ministry for Foreign Affairs in 1995.
