Foreign Minister Tuomioja to attend the Nordic Foreign Ministers’ Meeting

Foreign Minister Erkki Tuomioja will attend the Nordic Foreign Ministers’ Meeting held in Sandhamn in the Stockholm archipelago on 2–3 May. Sweden holds the chairmanship of the Nordic foreign and security policy cooperation this year.

The central theme of the meeting is further development of Nordic foreign and security policy cooperation. The ministers will discuss, among other topics, Nordic cooperation in diplomatic missions, the Nordic countries’ participation in peacekeeping operations, the Nordic UN policy, security and the deepening of security and defence policy cooperation. In addition, the ministers will discuss Arctic issues as well as topical foreign policy questions.

Foreign Minister Tuomioja, together with Swedish Foreign Minister Carl Bildt, will also participate in the discussion event, “Does the future of Nordic cooperation lie in security policy?”, that will be held at the Finnish Institute on Friday, 3 May.
